CAPLogoThe Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to CGH Medical Center Laboratory Department, Sterling, IL, resulting from a recent on-site inspection, as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

Farzan Eskandari, MD, FCAP, and  CGH Laboratory Medical Center Director, was advised of this National recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided.

CGH Medical Center Laboratory Department is one of more than 8000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“We’re very proud of this certification, as it emphasizes our commitment to provide the highest level of care for our patients,” said Dr. Eskandari, MD.

The U. S. Federal Government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to, or more stringent than, the government’s own inspection program.

The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.  Inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years.  CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

About 60-70% of all medical decisions are based on laboratory results.  On average, CGH sees 73,000 outpatients a year at the hospital and the clinic labs.  Many services performed in our laboratories include–but are not limited to–blood typing, blood transfusions, glucose tests, urine analysis, throat cultures, tissue blocks, and more.
