Arvid Housenga, 74, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community in Morrison, IL.
Arvid was born October 29, 1946, in Clinton, IA, to Edward and Alida (Dykstra) Housenga. He was a graduate of Fulton High School and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Illinois State University in Special Education. Arvid married Diane L. Koenes on August 25, 1967, in Fulton. After returning to Fulton from college, Arvid began the Special Education program at Fulton High School, teaching Special Education from 1969 to 2001. He coached Fulton High girl’s and boy’s basketball, track, football, and one year of volleyball. In his spare time, Arvid was an avid golfer and long-time member of Bucks Barn. He also enjoyed watching the Bulls, Cubs, and Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; son, Michael (Missy) Housenga of Rapids City, IL; two grandchildren, Mia and Mitchell Housenga; sisters, Audrey (Richard) Meade of Fulton, Mrs. Vicky Workman of Morrison, and Beth (Lane) Carlson, Sr. of Albany, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A public Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2021, at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL, with Rev. Chuck Huckaby, Pastor of First Reformed Church in Fulton, officiating.
A private family Visitation will be held at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
