The National Weather Service DVN Weather Story warns residents of a New Year’s Day winter storm, beginning in the afternoon of January 1, 2021. Another round of freezing rain and some snow is expected to move through the area and through the evening.
A winter storm watch has been issued for much of Illinois, far southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri, for the possibility of a quarter-of-an-inch of ice accumulation. Roads are expected to become slick, and ice could damage trees/power lines. Snow accumulation is mainly in the 1-to-3-inch range over Iowa and northwest Illinois.
