On Thursday, November 10, 2020, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos commented on the Supreme Court hearing of the Washington Republicans’ lawsuit, to strike down the Affordable Care Act (ACA.) “Let’s be clear. The ACA is the only law that protects coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. If this lawsuit is successful, more than 20,000,000 Americans–including more than 600,000 Illinoisans–would have their health care stripped from them. A[lso,] 130,000,000 Americans would lose protections for their pre-existing conditions.
“Today, in the middle of a devastating pandemic, Washington Republicans continued their relentless attacks on health care….They sued to eliminate the Affordable Care Act in the Supreme Court. After failing time and again to offer any alternative through Congress, they are now hedging their bets on the Court to accomplish their dangerous goals for them.
“As I’ve always done, I’ll continue to stand up to these attacks, fight to protect our care, find solutions to the lower costs, and ensure Illinoisans have access to quality, affordable health care.”
