Congratulations to Educators on World Teachers’ Day

Editor’s note:  Monday, October 5, 2020, was World Teachers’ Day.  Held annually on October 5 since 1994, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

If there ever was a moment in history to stop for a minute and celebrate the millions of women and men who help mold the clay of future generations, it is now.

The unrelenting COVID-19 pandemic has brought into sharp focus the talents, strengths, imagination, patience, dedication, and empathy of education professionals across Illinois and the United States.

As parents and students are discovering, a caring environment that encourages learning cannot be reproduced easily.  Helping students understand something today that they didn’t know yesterday is hard work.  Keeping young people pointed in the right direction is no small task.

This year, the “thank you” for our teachers that echoes through cities, suburbs, and rural communities is louder and stronger than ever.

At Teachers’ Retirement System, we loudly pay tribute to the constant contributions and sacrifices that our members make, to form a better tomorrow.

Thank you, one and all.

Sincerely,

Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois
