On Friday, June 19, 2020, an anonymous benefactor began to promote The Loft on Main and local businesses. This person provided The Loft on Main, 112 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL, with $10 gift certificates, to be used at select businesses. Certificates are given to anyone who purchases more than $50 of artwork.
Morrison businesses included Original Taco; Family Chef Restaurant; China House; Fat Boy’s; Hero’s Bar & Grill; Happy Joe’s Pizza; Isle of Rhodes, Embraced; Original Taco; Family Chef Restaurant; China House; Fat Boy’s; Hero’s Bar & Grill.
Art shoppers who qualify for a certificate will choose one of two businesses: Happy Joe’s Pizza or Brick Block Pub, at 109 and 105 W. Main Street, respectively. Certificates will be earned from Monday, September 21, through Sunday, September 27.
“The selection of businesses is at the discretion of our donor,” stated Sharon Boyles. “The goal is to encourage residents to shop locally and support our businesses. Each week, a different Morrison business will be selected.” Thank you for your patronage! Come support our community.
The Loft on Main continues to be closed during posted business hours but is open by appointment. Autumnal splendor is often lauded because of its coloration. Cozy fibers in these shawls display a similar, rich palette. They were woven by two female artists: Mari Jo Schuneman of Rock Falls IL, and Barbara Youngquist of Rock Island, IL. Schuneman created five, striped, rectangular scarves using wool, mohair, rayon, and metalics. Prices range from $48 to $98 for wearable art that will last for decades. Younquist weaves Tri-Loom, triangle shawls, like the two on the mannequin. She, too, weaves a variety of natural fibers into plaid and solid motifs. Prices range from $90 to $140; there are only four left.
Do you enjoy color-changing oak leaves? Morrison artist Carole Isenhart created a tri-color, metal sculpture with appeal. It is called Garden Spirit. “Can you see the face?” she asks. She cut and shaped a mass of black, copper, and gray metal leaves; welded them into a face motif; added a sturdy hook for mounting. This wall piece is 40″ wide and sells for $700. You will likely smile whenever you walk by. Give the garden spirit a new name if you like.
