On Monday, August 17, 2020, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced that Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, will receive a $150,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), under the Research in Undergraduate Institutions Program. The grant will be used to provide undergraduate students studying Physics with research experience vital to professional development, to prepare students for a successful career or graduate school.
Funds will support Augustana College’s nuclear physics group as they study nuclear structure and reactions. Students will analyze data, publish research results, and have support to travel to Michigan State University’s National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory to collaborate with others on experiments.
“Students should have every opportunity to dive into the subject they love and explore ways they can grow professionally,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “I’m pleased to announce these Federal dollars to support students at Augustana College as they conduct research and discover more about the world around us. I will continue to work to bring investments like this back to our communities, to give every student a fair shot at success and prepare the next generation of leaders.”
