Sheriff’s Office Reports Deadly Rollover

07-15-13 at 1:05 p.m.  The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle roll-over crash with multiple injuries on Interstate 88 at milemarker 29, rural Lyndon., IL.  Upon arrival, Deputies spoke with the driver, Colton C. Elliot, age 23 of Bountiful, UT, who stated he fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle, a passenger van, was originally traveling eastbound on I-88 when the driver went off into the median, overcorrected, causing the van to slide uncontrollably, and then roll several times before it came to rest back in the median. 

One unbuckled passenger, Colton R. Ericksen, age 19 of West Jordan, UT, was ejected from the van and pronounced deceased on scene by Whiteside County Coroner Joe McDonald.

Samuel C. Giles, age 18 of South Jordan, UT *injured*
Ø  Diego Mijares, age 24 of Sandy, UT *uninjured*
Ø  Kyle G. Wilcox, age 28 of San Diego, CA *injured*
Ø  Joseph W. Sandmire, age 18 of South Jordan, UT *injured*
Ø  Irvin Martinez, age 22 of Sandy, UT *injured*
Ø  Rhett T. Hansen, age 23 of Draper, UT *injured.*
 
All injured occupants, members or associates of the band “Dark Seas,” were transported to CGH in Sterling, IL, for treatment.  The driver was cited for Improper Driving on the Shoulder, and other charges are pending, once results are received from the Illinois State Police Crime Lab. 
 
Whiteside County Coroner’s Office, Morrison Police, Illinois State Police, Prophetstown/Lyndon Fire, Prophetstown EMS, Morrison EMS, Erie EMS, CGH EMS, Rick’s Towing, and Illinois Department of Transportation all assisted on scene.
