On Friday morning at about 8:00 a.m., March 13, 2020, Morrison, IL, Junior High School Wrestlers Cameron McDonnell and Donny Reavy were recognized by their peers, for qualifying to compete in the State Wrestling Tournament. The young men processed down the hall, flanked by sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.

Three young men earned the right to compete at State. However, IESA, under direction from Northern Illinois University, cancelled this year’s State Wrestling Meet, and all State tournaments were cancelled this week, due to concerns over large crowds and possible spread of the coronavirus/COVID-19.
Cameron McDonnell is an eighth grader, the son of Denice Smith and Mark McDonnell. He wrestled in the 185 lb class, garnering 17 wins and 3 losses. All his wins were by pins. He stated his most powerful move is “banging my opponent’s head up and down and sticking the head in.”
Will Meier is an eighth grader, the son of Lisa and Randy Meier. He wrestled in the 275 lb Heavyweight class, garnering 19 wins and 1 loss. McDonnell said Meier’s best move is the “headlock.”
Donny Reavy is a seventh grader, the son of Kris Myers and Reynolds Reavy. He wrestled in the 105 lb class, garnering 20 wins and 2 losses. Sixteen of his 20 wins were pins. He grinned as he stated his power move was “leg riding.”
