robert romanRobert J. Roman, 83, of Prophetstown, IL, died Thursday, January 30, 2020, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.

Bob was born on November 15, 1936, in Sterling, to Robert E. and M. Lucile (Johnson) Roman.  He was educated in the Prophetstown schools.  He married Juanita S. Sutton on June 6, 1959, in Prophetstown.  She died February 14, 2012.  He later married Diane J. Sommers-Holtz on May 25, 2013, in Erie, IL.  Bob was first employed at Steel Ball in Sterling.  He then sold cars for Schuler Motors in Morrison, until his retirement in 2006.  He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Prophetstown.  Bob was an active member of the Prophetstown Historical Society, and helped remodel some of the Historical Society building.  When he was younger, he enjoyed racing go-karts and building balsa wood airplanes.  Later he enjoyed restoring and showing his antique cars.  Bob was a handyman, lending a hand wherever needed.  He enjoyed going to the river and camping.  His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; daughters, Deb Roman of Prophetstown, Kim (Brian) Smith of Prophetstown, and Robin (Sean) Hicks of Pewaukee, WI; son, Kent (Penny) Roman of Prophetstown; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice (Larry) Otis of Erie, and M. Christine Smith of Morrison, IL; sister-in-law, Mrs. Jacki Roman of Prophetstown; aunt, Norene Richards of Monticello, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Juanita; brother, David A. Roman.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Prophetstown, IL, with Rev. Father Antoni J. Kretowicz officiating.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown, IL.

Memorials to the Prophetstown Historical Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Prophetstown Emergency Services have been established.
