Harold G. Renkes, 99, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton.
Harold was born August 8, 1920, in Garden Plain, IL, to Phaul and Nellie (Sterenberg) Renkes. He was educated in the Garden Plain Grade School and was a graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. On January 17, 1947, he married Ramona H. Merema in Fulton. Harold farmed in the rural Garden Plain and Newton Township areas. After retiring from farming, Harold engaged in his passion to help people in need. He was a member of the former Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton and was currently a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton. He enjoyed reading and doing Sudoku puzzles. He also enjoyed being outdoors, maintaining the grounds at several local churches.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona; daughters, Judy (Ken) Vanderploeg of Fulton and Priscilla (Jake) Ritzema of Byron, IL; son, Ken (Michelle) Renkes of Morrison, IL; five grandchildren, Traci (Ross) Kraemer, Kent (Danielle) Vanderploeg, Sara (Eric) Pessman, Brett (Melody) Ritzema, Kimberly (Myron) Graham; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brothers, George and Marvin Renkes.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with his son, Ken Renkes, officiating.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2019, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Fulton Food Pantry and The Pregnancy Center, Clinton, IA.
