The fragrance of hot cider, decorations of cut greens, and shortened daylight hours signal that Christmas in Heritage Canyon approaches. Join the Early American Crafters in Fulton, IL, 515 N. Fourth Street, as we replicate life in the mid-1800s. Wood-burning stoves, oil lanterns, and first-person interpreters bring the buildings to life, from noon to 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 7, 2019. At dusk the venue will be lit with lanterns and luminaries. You might bring a flashlight to light your walk during the Illuminated Christmas Walk. There is no admission charge.
The City of Fulton will offer visitors free trolley rides to and from the Canyon, between noon and 7:00 p.m. Parking, pick up, and drop off is at Fulton Corporation Specialty Manufacturers, 303 8th Avenue (the corner of 8th Avenue and 3rd Street.) Parking at the Canyon (in the lot) is for staff only.
Stroll woodland paths, bridges, and brick sidewalks to visit recreated buildings decorated for the holiday season, as “folks of Christmas past” go about their merry holiday activities. Weather permitting, a golf cart will take people to the bottom of the Canyon.
Find Santa Claus and an Elf in the Town Hall, while you enjoy complimentary cookies and warm beverages (hot cocoa, cider, coffee, or our special Canyon Tea.)
Visit the General Store and peruse the merchandise. Upstairs is the Dressmaker’s Shop, Bank, Doctor’s Office, and Clay Pipe Shop.
Inside the quaint Church, Carol Fritz will play the pump organ. The Log Cabin on the hill will be open until dusk, with cooking and tree decorating.
Blacksmiths Gene and Rick will be at the forge, executing their craft.
Students in the Schoolhouse will practice carols and decorate a fresh tree with handmade ornaments, candles, and snowflakes.
