Alva Jean Meurs, 92, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL, died Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Harbor Crest.
Alva Jean was born September 13, 1927, in Fulton, to John and Jennie (Faber) Temple. She was educated in the Fulton grade schools and attended Fulton High School. On December 6, 1946, she married Raymond Meurs in Fulton. He died May 7, 2009. Alva Jean was briefly employed by Burpee Seeds in Clinton, IA. She was a homemaker. Alva Jean was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, and she was very active with the Christian school when her children were young.
Survivors include daughter, Sandra Jean (Walter) Gorzney of Morrison, IL; sons, Jimmie Lee (Becky) Meurs of Davenport, IA, John Ray (Deborah) Meurs of Garden Plain, IL, and Scott Dale (Dawn) Meurs of Morrison; grandchildren, Brian (Jean) Gorzney, Kelly (Andrew) Dykstra, Allison Meurs, Stacy (Elliot) Worth, and Cassandra Meurs; great-grandchildren, Ryder, Holden, and Dax Gorzney and Bailey, Landon, and Rylie Dykstra; step-grandchildren, Erica Meunier and Nate Hege; step-great-grandchildren, Britney and Christopher Meunier and Jasmine and Ivey Hege.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brothers, Alvin and Joseph Temple.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral, officiated by Ken Renkes.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2019, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
A memorial to Unity Christian School has been established.
