MusicStaff“A Tapestry of American Music: Songs that Unite Us” will be presented by Morrison’s Community Choir, on Sunday, September 15, 2019.  The performance will be at Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Nearly 60 talented singers from the community are directed by Rich Criss, Kathy Janicek, and John Frame.

A free-will offering may be given at the door.  Monies raised will assist Morrison Ministerial Council and Morrison Schools’ Music Programs.

Drawing from our Nation’s rich musical culture, the massed choir will sing both sacred and secular songs, including grassroots folk songs, African American spirituals, and rousing, heartfelt, patriotic music.  The United States is said to be a cultural melting pot, and music intertwines with all aspects of America’s identity.  Songs will showcase the diversity of our Country.

Opening with “We Are Made for Praise,” the choir will continue with beloved hymns “Blessed Assurance” and “Lord, You Have Been Our Dwelling Place.”  Next are the folk song “Shenandoah” and the rousing gospel tune, “Down by the Riverside.”

“For Men Only” is a compilation of ’70s and ’80s pop tunes, sung by the men’s choir.  Included are “Do Doo Ron Ron,” “My Girl,” “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling,” and “Three Times a Lady.”  Not to be outdone, the women will present “For Women Only” with “One Fine Day,” “My Guy,” “Baby Love,” and “Breakin’ Up is Hard to Do.”

The afternoon of music will conclude with John Rutter’s “The Music’s Always There with You” and the treasured “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.”

Organist Nancy Brzezinski will open the afternoon concert with a prelude and close with a postlude.  Accompanists for the concert are Nancy Brzezinski, Pat Cassens, Rich Criss, and Anne Frame.

Join us in this great opportunity to sing and work together, have great fellowship, and enjoy a lot of fun!
