Police Investigating Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Train

On Monday, July 15, 2019, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Morrison Police responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a Union Pacific Railway train on N. Jackson Street, Morrison, IL.  A truck and horse trailer combination driven by Gary J. Cooper, age 70 of Dixon, IL, was northbound on Jackson Street at the railroad crossing.  The truck and horse trailer separated on the railroad crossing.

A westbound train then struck the horse trailer, throwing the trailer into a parked vehicle at 101 S. Jackson Street.  The horse trailer contained one horse, which was killed during the crash.

Morrison Police continue to investigate the crash with the assistance of the Union Pacific Railway Police.

Morrison Police were assisted at the crash scene by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, Slim & Hank’s Towing, and Johnson Towing.
