Melvin Bruce Ilsley, 90, of Windsor Manor, Morrison, IL, formerly of Prophetstown, IL, died Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community.
Melvin was born October 6, 1928, in DeKalb, IL, to Ross and B. Claire (Huftalin) Ilsley. He was educated in the Cortland, IL, grade schools and attended DeKalb[, IL,] High School. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, and served during the Korean Conflict. On August 30, 1957, he married Jeanette Cassier in Sycamore, IL. Melvin was an over-the-road truck driver for many years, and then he retired from the Illinois State Highway Department. He was a member and Past Post Commander of the Sycamore VFW Post #5768. Melvin enjoyed trucking and traveling and camping with his family. Melvin’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his wife, Jeanette, and the grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; three daughters, Christine Barcus of Freeport, IL, Claire (Terry) Ericson of Bella Vista, AR, and Diane (Frank) Heisner of Prophetstown, IL; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Zetta) Barcus, Steven Barcus, Daniel (Phuong) Barcus, Carlie Ericson, Michael Ericson, Scott (Jess) Wirsing, Jeff Wirsing, and Rachel Wirsing; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Ilsley, and one brother in infancy, George Ilsley.
Cremation rites have been accorded; there will be no visitation or services.
The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, Prophetstown, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial to Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community has been established.
