“Bethesda Blaze” Relay For Life Team from Bethesda Lutheran Church, Morrison, IL, held their annual “Let’s Strike out Cancer” Scotch Doubles tournament, on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Hilltop Lanes in Morrison. The team is supported by Prophetstown Royal Neighbors of America, Chapter 516.
The event included two shifts with 96 bowlers taking their turns on the lanes. Mike Hamilton, owner of Hilltop Lanes, 629 E. Lincolnway, in Morrison, provided the bowling alley for this fundraiser. There were door prizes, snacks, and a raffle. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Whiteside County. The Relay will be held on Saturday, June 8, at Westwood Sports Complex in Sterling, IL.
This year’s event raised $3002 including $1000 in Matching Funds donated by Royal Neighbors of America, Chapter #516.
The team has ranked in the Top Three teams in Whiteside County each year for the past ten years and placed 3rd for 2018. Since it formed in 2001, “Bethesda Blaze” has raised over $137,222 in the fight against cancer. They accomplished this by holding various fundraisers, such as bake sales, Scotch Doubles Bowling events, breakfasts at DQ Grill & Chill, motorcycle rides, guest bartending nights, silent auctions, and raffles–plus personal fundraising and matching funds.
The team would like to thank all who attended and supported the event, with special thanks going to Mike Hamilton of Hilltop Lanes and also to Royal Neighbors of America, Chapter #516 of Prophetstown.
