On Saturday, April 13, 2019, Kiwanians and Morrison High School Key Club members orchestrated another successful Community Easter Egg Hunt, atop the hill in Kiwanis Park, in the 700 block of N. Genesee Street, Morrison, IL. The popular “dash-and-grab” event was initiated decades ago by local members of United States Junior Chamber of Commerce–also known as the Jaycees–but it has been the service project of Kiwanis Club for many years. Former Key Cub members volunteered at this event.
Key Clubs students are a vital component. They helped pack about 1400 plastic eggs with treats; 16 prize announcements; over 150 dessert coupons from Bart and Ellen Smith, owners of DQ Grill & Chill.
Kathy Fredericks donates non-sugar toys/playthings after each egg hunt, for children who cannot have sweets.
Sophomores Ivy VanKampen, left, and Jasmine Callan, delivered 16 pastel, plastic baskets and paper bags to the Easter Bunny when each age group had collected all eggs in the field. Senior Michelle Edwards was the announcer, because Junior High School Principal Joe Robbins had supplied a sound system.
Faculty Co-Advisors to Key Club are Gwen Rickertsen and Jennifer Stevenson. This is Stevenson’s second year. Kris Bielema is Morrison Kiwanis Advisor to the Key Club. Bielema, left, and Stevenson are pictured at the conclusion of the Easter Egg Hunt.
Promptly at 9:45 a.m., volunteer Fireman Jamie White sounded the alarm to announce the arrival of the guest of honor. His daughter, Avery, accompanied him in the MFD Brush Truck. Three crucial Key Club duties were conducted by Bunny Escort Senior Jacob Brown; Easter Bunny; Escort Junior Alyssa Meiers. Bunny was kept busy starting each heat, dispensing special prizes, hugging children, and posing for photographs.
