Letter from Scott Vance re: Harmful Momo Challenge

Posted by

Dear Parents:

This letter is to inform you of a recent social media challenge targeting children and young adults called the “Momo Challenge.”  This social media phenomenon has created concern throughout the Country, due to stories of young adults and children harming themselves as a result of this “challenge.”

The “challenge” can be found via Facebook and the app WhatsApp.   Recently, however, stories have been reported of the “Momo Challenge” surfacing in online games–such as Roblox and Fortnite–as well as in YouTube videos.

For information purposes, I have attached links to a few recent articles on the “Momo Challenge” below:

Please be vigilant in monitoring your children’s social media interactions, as well as the appropriateness of their use of technology.  You are the best defense against the negative influences of social media on your children’s lives.  Please talk open and honestly with your children about the dangers of online gaming and social media.

Thank you for taking the time to read this important information.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s Principal and/or School Counselor.

Sincerely,
Scott Vance, Superintendent
