The Loft on Main, 112 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL, will host a “Meet the Artists” evening on Thursday, March 7, 2019, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Four exhibiting artists will tell their stories and explain their art.  These artists are Lloyd Beckman, woodturner; Sharon Boyles, notecard creator; Rick Brant, photographer; Vernon Shaver, watercolorist and wood carver.

This evening is designed for the public and artists to interact.  There will be time for questions.  There is no charge for the evening.

LloydBeckmanBirdhousesLloyd Beckman lives in Sterling, IL, and retired in 2000.  He seriously has turned his talents to woodworking and is a member of the American Society of Wood Turners.  As he explained, “woodturning” is spinning wood on a lathe and letting the lathe do the carving.  Several of his pieces hang on this display.

Sharon Boyles, a CPA, lives in Morrison.  In 2013 she began making note and greeting cards for friends and family, using card stock and scraps of fabric.  Using small scissors and tweezers, she individually cuts tiny pieces of fabric, applies a drop of glue, and affixes it to paper, making designs that resemble fine mosaics.

Rick Brant attended Morrison Institute of Technology in Morrison after high school graduation.  Brant has since retired to Lake Carroll in Carroll County.  His goal when photographing wildlife is to capture the creatures in their natural habitat without disturbing nature.

Vernon Schaver lives in Fulton, IL, and is a retired teacher of art and fifth grade.  He also worked as a carpenter part-time for 20 years.  Schaver is a graduate of Morrison High School and Augustana College.  His artwork includes watercolors, pen and ink, wood carvings of rural wild life, and still life.
