Chicago Indie “Hunting God” Nears Release

NWFilmOfficeLogoWord has reached the Northwest Illinois Film Office (NIFO) that independent film “Hunting God” has completed post-production and is now finalizing distribution deals.  Principal filming took place in Savanna, IL, in April 2018.  It appears to be right on schedule for release, according to Director, Justin Jackola.

Jackola, shown below, announced to NIFO that the film has received official distribution offers from several entities, and the DCP, or, Digital Cinema Package (digital version of a 35mm film print) is now “in the can.”  The DCP’s main advantage is that it can presented to theaters to enable them to project it via a digital projector.  A DCP is recognized and accepted all over the world.

Jackola explained, “We’re negotiating deals with theatrical distributors, TV Networks, streaming platforms, direct to DVD, and our agents are working to finalize the deal, or combination of deals.  We’re really excited about this, and look forward to partnering with these distributors, so we can put together a release schedule for the film.”

HuntingGod2“Hunting God,” directed by Jackola and written by Ken Miyamoto, follows a recent widower who, when reunited with some old buddies to film a hunting show, comes across a supernatural presence that forces him to confront his faith.

The film, a found footage drama, takes place around a secluded cabin in the woods.  It is seen through the lenses of the characters’ own cameras, during their hunting show’s production.

It was shot at Bill Delp’s historic Grandpa’s Cabin, a structure that dates to 1837.

The production team soon found support from many of Savanna’s residents, who stepped in when help was needed.  Jackola added, “Whether it was hunting guides, a truck, or a generator, if we needed it, Savanna stepped up.  In fact, Bill and his partner Rhonda, both extremely talented photographers, became part of our team, shooting still photography and behind-the-scenes photos for the crew.  The entire shoot was just a fantastic experience!”

Gary Camarano, NIFO Director, said, “This is great news; it caps off a successful first year for our film office!  We had three projects in Northwest Illinois this year, “Hunting God,” HBO’s “Lovecraft County,” and an industrial documentary.  It has been a pleasure working with all of them.”

“Moreover, we are especially ecstatic to hear about “Hunting God’s” progress, and we cannot wait to see it.  Our office will announce when a distribution deal is finalized.  We look forward to coordinating a showing of the film in the region.”
