Late Offense Tops Fulton

Fulton’s Ethan Jones was in perfect controol of the Morrison Mustangs for the first three innings, but couldn’t hold the Mustangs as Morrison advanced to the Regional finals with a 5-3 win. Jones sruck out five of the first nine Mustangs he faced and the Steamers offense crossed the plate each of the first three innings and took a 3-0 lead into the fourth.The Mustangs, Alex Fischbach gave up five hits in the first three innings, but the Steamers were held to only one additional hit over the last four frames by Fischbach and Bill Lee Greul.The sixth inning was the difference as Danny Willis blooped a single over the shortstop into left field and Alex Volckmann sent Willis to third with a line double down the left field line. Fischbach drilled a two and two pitch into the gap between the right and center for a triple  to  push Willis and Volckmann home to tie the game at 3-3.  The lead run was driven in by Andrew Connelly’s single in front of the left fielder and the insurane run was plated by Connelly as Joey Brackemyer slapped a curve ball to right field.

The Steamers only had one base runner after the third inning as the Mustangs earned a chance to compete for the Regional title on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) against Erie-Prophetstown at the Morrison Sports Complex.
