Susan F. Buhlig, 67, of Windsor Manor in Morrison, IL, formerly of Thomson, IL, died Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community, after nine years with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
Sue was born February 6, 1951, in Morrison, to Henry C. and Marian A. (Beveroth) Meinsma. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. On March 6, 1971, she married William “Dean” Buhlig, Jr. in Fulton, IL. He died September 11, 2018. Sue was a real estate agent in Nebraska, where they lived for 18 years on Lake Maloney, before retiring to Thomson, on the Mississippi River. Sue and Dean moved many times for Dean’s career with the railroad. Wherever they lived, Sue’s family, kids, grandkids, faith, and community were most important to her. She had a love of music and was a record collector. She participated in various church choirs as well as the Sweet Adelines a capella singing group. Sue loved living on the water, enjoying boating and days on the water and beach with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Heather (Brian) Stewart of Concord Township, OH, and Brandy (Kevin) Fernow of Batavia, IL; one son, Nathan (Shamaree) Buhlig of North Platte, NE; four grandchildren, Camden, Bennett, Nora, and Henry; one sister, Betty (Dan) Holesinger of Fulton; four brothers, Gerald (Marcia) Meinsma of Morrison, Kenneth (Joyce) Meinsma of Morrison, James (Jody) Meinsma of Middleburgh, NY, and Darrell (Sally) Meinsma of Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; one brother, Donald A. Meinsma; one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Meinsma.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Albany United Methodist Church in Albany, IL, preceded by a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Pastor Toni Lucas will officiate.
The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton, IL, is handling arrangements.
A private family interment will be in Lusk Memorial Cemetery in Albany, IL.
A memorial has been established to Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community in honor of the loving care bestowed on Sue the last year.
