2018 Veterans Day Tribute

Posted by

On Sunday, November 11, 2018, The American Legion post 328 conducted the annual Veterans Day tribute, at the Veterans Memorial in Grove Hill Cemetery, E. High Street, Morrison, IL.  Ten members gathered a few minutes before 11:00 a.m.

Before the ceremony, Sergeant-at-Arms Jerry Brearton instructed Legion members to space themselves an arm’s length apart.  Participating nine-year-old Cub Scouts Jerry Mulderink, left, and Corwen Hagerman did the same.  Adults left-to-right are Larry Zuidema, Ron Wiersema, Garry Seaman, Ken Petersen, Jim Prombo, Terry Jones, Bob Brands, Dennis VanZuiden, and Brearton.

Prombo offered the invocation.  Brearton stated today was the centennial anniversary of the signing of the Armistice (cease fire agreement, not a peace treaty) to conclude WWI.  The American Legion was formed after WWI, in 1919.

Dale and Nancy Usterbowski have begun an innovative, patriotic tribute, that can fit into a pocket.  They trim the 50 stars from discarded United States flags and print the short affirmation.  Call the Usterbowskis at 815-772-0153 to request a free star.
