Lacey Had a Foal

Posted by

Lacey is a Paint mare owned by the Dr. Cal Vandermyde family, 15213 Norrish Road, Morrison, IL.  She delivered on Thursday, May 31, 2018.  The sire was an American Quarter Horse.  Dr. Vandermyde noted the breeding between a Paint and a Quarter Horse transfers the mare’s classification to her offspring, so “Ellie” is a female Paint.  He added this is the first horse born on site in quite awhile.

The photo of Ellie and Lacey, her dam, was taken two months later, on Sunday, July 29, at 6:45 p.m.

Ellie will be described by various names as she ages:

  • foal–any male or female youngster from birth and while still with its mother
  • filly foal–another option for females
  • weanling filly–when she no longer nurses
  • yearling filly–when her first birthday is reached
  • mare–any filly over three (or four, if a race horse) who is of breeding age.

At any age, she could be called “adorable.”
