Marlene Buikema, of Morrison Family Health Clinic, 635 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, announced, “Our Nurse Practitioner, Becky West, is retiring, and we are hosting a retirement party at our clinic for her. She has worked along side Dr. Mark Woods for 25 years and was the first Nurse Practitioner Medical Associates hired.”
The public is invited to celebrate West’s contribution to the well being of area residents on Thursday, August 9, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Rebecca R. West has built an admirable, ever-expanding professional career serving patients, clients, and future nursing students.
West became a registered nurse in 1981. Her early years of nursing were spent at the Whiteside County Health Department, where she served as a Board Certified Community Health Nurse Specialist. In 1993, she earned a Masters Degree in Public Health Nursing from the University of Illinois and began her work as a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at the Morrison Family Health Clinic.
In 2011, she earned a PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focused on mindfulness meditation for health and well being. West was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing in the College of Nursing, University of Illinois. She taught graduate level core nursing courses and specialty clinical courses.
Additionally, West is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor, Health and Wellness Coach, and Meditation Instructor. In 2013, she founded The Morrison Meditation Center.
