Odell’s August 14 Movie “True Grit”

Jeff Bridges stars as Rooster Cogburn, a fearless, one-eyed, U. S. Marshall, in the 2010 film, “True Grit.”  He is sought out by a 13-year-old, Mattie Ross, to track down the villain who killed her father.  Together, this unlikely duo hooks up and journeys throughout Colorado to find justice.  Both Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld were nominated for Academy Awards for their roles.

The movie will be shown in the Program Room at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison, Street, Morrison, IL, on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Bearded, full-bellied, wearing his black eye-patch over his right eye, Rooster Cogburn (Bridges) is a man down on his luck.  Mattie Ross is given three names of people to help her find the man who killed her father.  She chooses Rooster.  LaBoeuf (Matt Damon), comes along with the two for his own reasons, to find the man who shot a State Senator.  Plus, he and Cogburn have some long-standing issues.

As Tom Chaney, Josh Brolin is a complete and awful villain who would just as soon shoot Mattie Ross as look at her.  As Mattie, Rooster, and LaBoeuf embark on a dangerous adventure, each character will have his or her grit tested.

The film first came out in 1975 with John Wayne playing Rooster Cogburn.  This film is directed by the Coen brothers as a true Western, a straightforward tale told with great artistry.

True grit may be what Mattie Ross is looking for, in the man she selects too track down Chaney, but it really is Mattie herself who has true grit in spades!

Come and enjoy a great story accompanied by popcorn and a cold drink.
