de Immigrant Windmill Program August 7

DrHallwasThe Volunteer Millers at de Immigrant Windmill will host their monthly programming on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. The event will be at the Windmill Cultural Center, 111 Tenth Avenue, in downtown Fulton, IL, across from the authentic Dutch Windmill.  This program is supported by grants from the local D. S. Flikkema Foundation and Illinois Humanities Council.

This program is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served following the presentation. The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities.

In reflection of the Illinois Bicentennial Celebration, John E. Hallwas, Professor Emeritus at Western Illinois University, will present “A Fascinating Frontier Experience:  Illinois Poet John Hancock.”  Professor Hallwas will share how, through the works of a renowned poet, much of the essence of early life and progress of Illinois was portrayed.

As a widely published author of various books and articles, Hallwas was also an instructor of English and historical/cultural classes at WIU for over 34 years.  Many of his published materials focus on themes surrounding self-realization, community, and belonging.  They truly reflect life in the Midwest through the past 200 years.  Professor Hallwas has won several awards as author and speaker, in reference to his wide range of published literature.  For more information on Hallwas, visit www.johnhallwas.jimdo.com.
