Editor’s note:  Hazel Road was finished Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 8:00 a.m., because the crew had run out of asphalt on Wednesday.  Below, Thursday’s crew applies steaming asphalt at the intersection with Greenland Drive.  Men and machinery then proceeded to Bishop Road.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, road improvements were begun on High Street, Hazel Road, and Millikan, Ridgewood, and Greenland Drives, in Morrison, IL.  Before 9:00 a.m., dump trucks from Newton and Union Grove Townships parked on Hazel Road, awaiting the heavy machinery that would transform their inky mass into smooth roadways.  On Wednesday, June 13, the process continues.

Half the roadway can be paved in a long, continuous strip.

Asphalt was created at a plant in Savanna, IL.  At the south end of Greenland Drive, a Union Grove Township truck deposits a steamy quantity into the Cedarapids Rielgler “Big-Ass Asphalt Spreader,” as it is called.
