June 4 Sheriff’s Office Accident Report

On Monday, June 4, 2018, at approximately 6:28 a.m., the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, along with Prophetstown Fire and Rescue, Prophetstown Ambulance, and Prophetstown Police responded to a traffic crash in the area of Star and Felton Roads.  The crash was reported where a bicyclist was struck.  Through their investigation, Deputies gathered information that a field sprayer being driven by Logan R. Dewald, 27 years old of Tampico, IL, was traveling eastbound on Star Road.  Toby J. Johnson, 35 years old of Prophetstown, IL, was traveling eastbound on Star Road on his bicycle, when he was struck by the field sprayer.  According to the driver of the sprayer, he was unable to see the cyclist due to the glare from the sun and struck the cyclist.

Johnson was transported by Prophetstown Ambulance to CGH Medical Center, where he was subsequently airlifted to Rockford Hospital for further medical treatment.  The accident remains under investigation by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office.
