Virginia M. “Ginny” Lawrence (1942 – 2018)

virginia lawrenceVirginia M. “Ginny” Lawrence, 75, of Morrison, IL, passed away April 27, 2018, at The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, following a brief illness.

Ginny was born November 29, 1942, in Denver, CO, to William and Ethel (Morrow) Mahoney.  She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Pi sorority.  She received her Master’s degree in Library Science from Northern Illinois University.  She married Derek Lawrence on August 20, 1966, in Moose, WY.  The couple enjoyed 51 years together and raised their two sons, Dale and Michael.

Ginny was a teacher for 35 years working at Prophetstown, IL, Elementary and High Schools, Tampico, IL, Elementary, and Chadwick, IL, Schools.  She retired in 2002, but stayed active in the community, especially at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church.  She also enjoyed several years working part-time in the transcription department of Morrison Community Hospital.

Ginny enjoyed reading, knitting, scrapbooking, and gardening.  She loved flowers, collected antiques, and had a special interest in Isabel Bloom sculptures.  She and Derek treasured their time spent at their condo in Fountain Hills, AZ.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Ginny is survived by her husband Derek; children, Dale (Amanda) Lawrence of Buffalo, MN, and Michael (John Jordan) Lawrence of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Lucas; her sister, Marilyn Rusk of Fort Wayne, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dennis Mahoney.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Ginny’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Morrison, IL.

Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the church.

Burial will be at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church Resurrection Garden.
