Troop 1504 Treats Morrison Businesswomen

Posted by

Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest female-run business in the world.  After their annual Cookie Sale, 30 Girl Scouts of combined troop 1504 chose to honor local women business owners and managers, as their 2018 “Gift of Caring” cookie donation recipients.  The troop is composed of Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette Girl Scouts.

The troop wrote, “Please join Morrison Girl Scout Troop 1504 as we celebrate local women business leaders, on Monday, April 23, 2018.”  The presentations were made at the troop meeting site, Northside Grade School, 520 N. Genesee Street, Morrison, IL at 7:15 p.m.

Kathy Schmidt, left, is a small business marketing consultant.  She explained that her job helps other businesses to advertise and grow.  She develops websites and promotional materials.  She is in the process of developing her business.

Martina Maxfield, center, created Yoga with Martina 15 years ago.  She explained that she grew up with yoga as a youth in Germany, and her mother introduced her to its benefits.  She demonstrated the “Warrior” pose and had the girls participate in “Tree” pose and simple stretching.

Stephanie Vavra, right, introduced herself as the mother of Leader Hillary Blevins and grandmother of Junior Annabelle.  She told of being a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout for only two years, memories of attending camp twice, and receiving–as an adult–her Girl Scout name, “Quill.”  It is appropriate, because Vavra is a writer and the owner of an online newspaper, thecity1.com.

The women picked three boxes of Girl Scout cookies from Tagalongs, Savannah Smiles, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Samoas, Toffee-tastic, and Girl Scout S’mores.  Co-Leader Andrea Ramirez received cookies, too, but did not address the girls.  She owns Andrea’s Day Care.  The 18 girls joined Maxfield, Vavra, and Schmidt for a photo.
