COHealth FairOn Tuesday, May 1, 2018, the Morrison Lions will host a free Diabetes Awareness Health Fair at Resthave Home, 408 Maple Avenue, Morrison, IL, from 2:00  to 5:30 p.m., with a walk to follow.  This will be a very informational event, with vendors to give many helpful tips and give away items.  Included will be foot screenings, foot massages, blood sugar testing, and blood pressure taking.  There will be booths providing wound education, exercise programs, eye and dental care, and essential oils.  You can also register for a drawing at the Lions Club table.

At 5:30 p.m., a Diabetes Awareness Walk (approximately two miles with short cuts available) will start and end at Resthave, going through French Creek Park.  Early registration forms are available at all the Morrison banks, credit unions, Sullivan’s Foods, Morrison Community Hospital, and Resthave Home.  The fee for early registration is $20 for each participant and $25 for a family.  It is due by Friday, April 27.  After that date, add $5.  Sponsors may be secured to cover the registration fee.

Please note that “family” means parents and their minor children.  Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Checks should be made payable to Morrison Lions Foundation.  They will be forwarded to Lions of Illinois Foundation for diabetes research and children with diabetes youth camps.

The Lions of Illinois Foundation Diabetic Retinopathy Mobile unit will also be at the fair.  A technician, using a specialized camera equipped with digital imaging capability, photographs the retina.  The digital images, which are actually computer photos, are examined by professional staff at Illinois Retina Associates.  The photos screen for Diabetic Retinopathy and Macular Degeneration conditions and detection of other vision problems.  Results of the photos are returned to individuals within six weeks of the test.   These tests are offered free and take only a few minutes.  If any problem is detected, the report will recommend you see a doctor of your choice.  Be sure to take advantage of this when you visit the fair.  Shown at right are Lions Darlene Smith and Keith Hamstra.

RetUnitMembers approved an annual donation to the Lions of Illinois Foundation at their Tuesday, March 20, meeting.  President Tracy Muur inducted Terry Costello, left, into the club.  He joins his wife, Sue, who was inducted a few months ago.  They have the honor of being the first husband/wife holding membership in our club.
