Reilly Dolan Signs Cornell College Letter of Intent

Posted by

On Thursday, March 22, 2018, Morrison High School Activities Director Gregg Dolan attended a significant Letter of Intent ceremony for a Senior athlete.  In the Library, Dolan told assembled members of the Junior class, “This is the first signing this year.  It’s an important step for the student.  The opportunity to move on and fit in academically [stems from] all the activities you do [in High School.]”

The honoree was his younger son, Reilly Dolan.  Older brother Tylr wrestled his first two years.  Due to concussion injuries, he was unable to wrestle as a Junior and Senior.

“I had no idea Reilly would wrestle in college, until I got the call [from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA,]” said Gregg Dolan.  Mother Tami was surprised, too.  She did not know Reilly had applied to Cornell.  “We got two cards in the mail” complimenting their son on his application essay.  “He received a four-year, academic, Dean’s Scholarship.”

“I’m drawn to Natural Sciences,” stated Reilly.  “They are building a new science wing.  It should be done by first semester of next year.”  He will room with a member of the Rams Wrestling team.

MHS Wrestling Coach Tony Wright has coached Reilly for three years.

Wright stated, “It’s pretty cool to have a student go on to wrestle in college.  It’s a testament to Reilly and all he has accomplished.”  He cited Dolan’s Wrestling record:

  • two-time State qualifier
  • tied for most Season victories with Joe Eads and Matt McDonald
  • 10th in MHS career wins, with 114
  • led the team in pins, wins, team points, and takedowns.

Cory Bielema, MHS Football Coach, attended the signing.  He has coached Dolan four years, positioning him as starting quarterbck for the last two.  Dolan was on the Varsity Baseball team for the last two years, also.

Wright joined the Dolan family for a commemorative photograph.  Reilly Dolan is officially a Cornell College Ram Wrester.
