The year of 2018 celebrates the bicentennial anniversary for the State of Illinois. What better way to pay tribute to the State’s history than to start at its pre-history status? Native Cherokee and Ojibwe Dan Lybarger from Galesburg, IL, will share his knowledge of Native American history and culture.
Reverend Lybarger’s topic for his presentation/performance is “Preparing for the Future by Touching the Past.” It begins at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Windmill Cultural Center, 111 Tenth Avenue, in downtown Fulton, IL, across from the authentic Dutch Windmill.
He has presented flute music and story-telling programs throughout the Midwest. He has been a previous guest at Heritage Canyon, playing his Native American flute. Now he will have an opportunity to tell us his cultural background. He holds great interest in the preservation of Native American languages, history, and culture.
Lybarger has been honored by the return to Pimiteoui Pow Wow Committee of Peoria, IL, for his contribution to the Native American community with the Peoria Falcon Award. Reverend Lybarger has spoken at several museums in Oklahoma City, OK, Prairie du Chien, WI, and Genoa, NE, plus at public schools and colleges.
He has developed language and cultural teaching methods for those who have been away from their tribal homes and wish to recover a sense of their language and culture.

This event is free and open to the public. The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.
