Sheriff’s Office Safe Driving Suggestions

Driving in SnowWhiteside County Sheriff’s Office would like remind all citizens of a few precautions to take with the possible winter storm approaching.  If you can avoid traveling, please do so.  Be sure your cell phone is fully charged, and take a car-adaptable charger with you.  If you get into an emergency situation, call 9-1-1.

If you must travel somewhere, travel at a slower speed, due to hazardous road conditions.  Allow extra time for traveling and braking.

Keep a blanket in your vehicle.  If you bury your car in a snowdrift, and it won’t start, you have the ability to keep yourself warm.  In addition, keep a few hand warmers with you as well.

You may also need a bag of sand in your vehicle.  This adds weight to your car (improving traction.)  You can spread sand near the tires, to help get traction, if you get stuck in a bad position.

Pack a small bag of dried food, like beef jerky and granola bars.
