The Illinois State Police are serving as the lead agency, conducting the outside criminal investigation of the Rock Falls, IL, Officer-Involved Shooting Friday night, January 26, 2018.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators processed the shooting scene and collected evidence from the involved officer and the decedent. Agents were canvasing the neighborhood until about 3:00 a.m., looking for anyone with information on the incident. Investigators collected dash cam video from one Rock Falls Police squad and two Whiteside County Sheriff Squad cars that were on scene.
Agents met with the family of the deceased, to answer their questions and explain the investigative process.
Details of the deadly force incident are not being released at this time, as there are witnesses that still need to be interviewed. The Whiteside County Coroner expects the autopsy will be scheduled for Monday, January 29.
The investigation is ongoing.
