Three years ago, the Whiteside County Covered Bridge over Rock Creek was first embellished. During the 2014 holiday season, attractive twin wreaths decorated both ends of the bridge.
Mt. Pleasant Township Supervisor Kent Shepard added rope lighting around “window” openings, which added charm to the darkness of November and December.
Wreaths were
- purchased by Morrison Chamber of Commerce Board member Stephanie Vavra
- decorated by Stephanie Mann of Wilson Greenhouses & Florist, 103 N. Heaton Street, Morrison, IL
- installed by Shepard and his crew.
Vavra applied for a Morrison Area Community Foundation (MACF) grant to reimburse the Chamber for the costs. MACF graciously approved the request in December 2014.
Shepard, left, and Daniel Deter are shown November 2014, prior to the first installation.
On Wednesday, November 22, 2017, they repeated the annual decorating task, on the eve of Thanksgiving. Deter is on the left, as the men stood before the east entrance to the bridge.
What took place two years after the first photo was further embellishment by Shepard. In 2016, he and Deter installed the illuminated, juggling snowman and waving Santa Claus. The west facade displays another waving Santa, a candy cane, gift box, and an ornament.
Drive through the darkness to enjoy the light show atop the Covered Bridge, compliments of Deter and Shepard.
