International Thanksgiving Weekend organizers are inviting local families to host one or two students, Wednesday, November 22, through Sunday, November 26, 2017. The purpose of the program is to learn about other cultures, share what is good about America, and also make new friends.
Have you ever considered having a foreign exchange student for a school year, but thought that was too long of a commitment? Here is your chance to experience another culture for just a weekend.
The weekend homestay program was founded in 1956; Morrison residents have participated since the 1960’s. Chicago-area college students from various Countries apply to the program, which is organized by the International House at the University of Chicago. It is sponsored locally by Morrison Rotary Club.
Optional planned activities for the students include
- bowl at Hilltop Lanes
- tour the Dale Sterenberg farm
- visit the Fulton, IL, Windmill Cultural Center
- view the Mississippi River
- visit Morrison-Rockwood State Park.
A potluck supper and folk dancing is planned for all the students and their hosts, on Friday evening, November 24, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 601 N. Jackson Street, Morison.
