In conjunction with our football game on Friday, October 13, 2017, being played in Clinton, IA, at the Lumberking Stadium, the Morrison football staff has decided to use this as an opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause. As educators our goal is to guide our student athletes to the next level. With this goal in mind, the MHS football staff has chosen the Pat Tillman Foundation as a charity worthy of our support.
Founded in 2004, the Pat Tillman Foundation invests in military veterans and their spouses, through academic scholarships–building a diverse community of leaders committed to service to others. Scholars chosen show extraordinary academic and leadership potential; a true sense of vocation; a deep commitment to create positive change[. They] work in the fields of
- medicine
- law
- business
- policy
- technology
- education
- the arts.
Pat’s life story is quite a patriotic story with an unfortunate ending. Please take a few minutes and Google search Pat Tillman; you will see for yourself. One of the ways we are going to fund raise for this event is to sell t-shirts and sweatshirts. A portion of each sale will be donated to the foundation. Each school will have their own t-shirt design, so we can see which fan base has the most school spirit and charitable spirit. Since the Tillman Foundation is a non-profit group, any individual or business that would like to donate specifically to the foundation will get a tax return receipt. Those checks should be written directly to the Foundation, in care of MHS. We will get the money to the foundation.
Included in the evening will be a combined Rockridge and Morrison band, performing the National Anthem and halftime music. Each Varsity player who has a veteran as an immediate family member will be introduced, along with the veteran.
Ticket prices were set by the Lumberkings. Similar to our Conference baseball games played at the stadium, the price is $5 for everyone. Conference passes and Student ID’s for Morrison students will be accepted as payment. We are excited about the opportunity to play at the Lumberkings stadium and looking forward to raising money for a very worthy cause.
