Arthur Clarence Best, age 83, passed away surrounded by family, Friday September 1, 2017, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL.
Arthur was born on March 22, 1934, in West Pittston, PA, the son of Raymond and Eleanor (Werner) Best. He served his Country in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Arthur married Mavis Martinson on December 29, 1956, in Galesville, WI. He enjoyed playing tennis and camping with family; he was an avid Yankees, Lakers, and 49’ers fan. Settling in Morrison, IL, to raise his family, Arthur worked at Clinton Corn for 14 years. Later he transitioned to the Rock Falls , IL, WalMart from where he retired after 22 years.
Survivors include his wife Mavis of Morrison; two daughters, Debra (Ray) Riggen of Baraboo, WI, and Becky (Jon) Mattox of Sterling; four sons, Mark (Debra Dianda) Best of Las Vegas, NV, Terry (Tricia) Best of Apache Junction, AZ, Todd (Beth) Best of Bettendorf, IA, and James (Loraine) Best of Morrison. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Dana (Rocky) McMahon, Lydia Best, Kyle Mattox, Adam Mattox, Jamie Best, Josiah Best, Jessie Best ,and Jeremiah Best; three great -grandchildren, Avamarie Jean Best, Evan Clark ,and Jakobi Lea.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Delbert and Raymond Best; a sister in infancy.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date, in Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls, IL.
