Per the order of Wayne Rosenthal, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and in accordance with Winnebago, Ogle, and Lee Counties, Whiteside County Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi announced the Rock River has been designated a restricted boating area and thus closed to recreational boating.
Rising flood waters, dangerous currents, floating and submerged debris, as well as weakened levees, have all contributed to dangerous conditions for navigation on the Rock River.
The river will be closed until further notice.
