The first order of business during the City of Morrison, IL, Council Meeting of Monday, June 12, 2017, was to recognized a 23-year veteran of the local Police Department. Chief of Police Brian Melton honored Officer Gabe Gomez for his service of 2.3 decades here and presented him with a plaque.
The mounted badge had been worn by Gomez; it states, “G. T. Gomez Morrison, Illinois, State of Illinois.”
The testimonial stated, “Gabe Gomez Police Officer, City of Morrison, Illinois, May 23, 1994 – May 28, 2017. In honor, recognition and appreciation of your service and commitment to the citizens of Morrison. Chief Brian Melton & Staff.”
Gomez commented, “I started in 1985 with [Whiteside County Sheriff] Butch Kimmel. There have been incredible changes [since then.] I was an Officer for 31 years, seven months, and seven days.”
Earlier, during a luncheon, Gomez was presented a Retired Police Badge. It is not the custom to award the Officer’s actual badge upon retirement.
However, Chief Melton made an exception for an exceptional public servant.
