Field of Dreams Under the Stars

Morrison Chamber of Commerce is covering all the bases with its Movies Under the Stars film, at the Morrison Sports Complex, 315 Bishop Road, Morrison, IL.  The first film of the year knocks it out of the park, on Saturday, May 6, 2017.  The movie, sponsored by Morrison Youth Baseball and Softball, will be the family friendly, Field of Dreams (PG Rated.)  This 1989 fantasy-drama sports film features an Iowa corn farmer, Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), who hears a ghostly whisper, “If you build it, he will come.”  Kinsella is inspired to construct a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield to “ease his [unidentified] pain.”

To paraphrase the ghostly whisperer, Shoeless Joe Jackson, “If we show it, the public will come.”  The movie will begin at dusk.

For Illinois film trivia fans, look for Joe and Cheri Waite, Prophetstown, IL, in the scene filmed at their Logan House Bar in Galena, IL.  Kevin Kostner and James Earl Jones have stopped on their road trip.  Joe is seen behind the bar.  Look over Jones’s head to a man and woman by the jukebox; you will see Cheri.  The Waites have owned Eureka Inn, a Prophetstown restaurant, for 29 years.

Load up the car.  Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a flashlight for a free evening of entertainment.  Please remember that smoking is not permitted at the complex, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
