On Wednesday, April 19, 2017, two Morrison High School Seniors demonstrated their plans to continue their education at universities in Iowa, by signing Letters of Intent. MHS Head Football Coach Cory Bielema, left, stands behind his lineman, Brandon Meier. William Penn University Head Wrestling Coach Eric Reed stands behind Joe Eads. He drove three hours to officially welcome the Freshman-to-be wrestler to his National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) program.
Reed “has been following” Eads’s successful wrestling career. He knew Joe’s uncle, Charlie Eads, who wrestled for, and was graduated from, WPU in the early 2000’s. Reed noted former Morrison High School Athletic Director Gus Linke is a graduate and encourages local athletes to consider WPU. He expects “about 50 wrestlers” will start the season, which is “average.” The number likely will drop to “about 30 at the end of the season, due to injuries.” Freshmen can wrestle the first year. “We can develop our guys, as long as they are showing up to practices” and striving.
State Wrestling Champion Joe Eads, signed his commitment to wrestle with the William Penn University “Statesmen” team, in Oskaloosa. He was offered a four-to-five year, renewable package. Eads is seated between his parents, Justin and Tori.
Brandon Meier signed his committment to play football at Loras College in Dubuque, with the “Duhawks.” His future team plays in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III. He was offered a one-year, academic-based package. Meier is seated between his parents, Lisa and Randy.
The signings signified years of academic and athletic endeavors; encouragement, effort, and expertise; application of a healthy work ethic. Well done, all!
