Wayne L. Van Zuiden (1933 – 2017)

wayne van zuidenWayne L. Van Zuiden, 84, of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, IA.

Wayne was born January 19, 1933, in Newton Township, Rural Albany, IL, the son of William J. and Fannie (VenHuizen) Van Zuiden. He married Leslie Peterson on July 13, 1952, in Hillsdale, IL. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1988. He later married Sara L. Fisher on July 3, 1988, in Clinton, IA. He is a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, he farmed in the rural Albany area for many years and drove truck for Van Zuiden Trucking. He was employed by CF Industries, Albany, for many years as a Regional Manager and retired as a Superintendent. He was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church, a member of the Albany Lion’s Club, and a 50 year member the Albany American Legion, Post #1079. He played bass guitar and was the lead singer of the County Rebels band. He was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Van Zuiden, of Fulton; one daughter, Penny (Gerald) Von Essen, of Savanna, IL; two sons, Rodney Van Zuiden, of Springfield, IL, and Tracy (Kim) Van Zuiden of Stafford, VA; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Boelkins, of Morrison, IL, Darlene (Robert) Wiebenga, of Albany, and Margaret Mohnihna, of Boston, MA; four brothers, Willard Van Zuiden, of Albany, Harvey (Arlene) Van Zuiden, of Morrison, Howard (Jan) Van Zuiden, of Fulton, and Ronald (Linda) Van Zuiden, of Albany.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Van Zuiden; a great-granddaughter, Andrea Good; a sister, Genevieve Juist; three brothers, Gerald, Maynard, and Jay Van Zuiden.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at Fulton Presbyterian Church, Fulton, IL.

Funeral Services will be Monday, April 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the church, with Pastor Catherine Martin officiating.

Burial will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.

A memorial to Fulton Presbyterian church has been established.
