The Whiteside County Bar Association (WCBA) is proud to announce that two of its members, Michelle Buckwalter-Schurman of Morrison, IL, at left, and Kelli D. Walker of Sterling, IL, at right, have received Thomas Kilbride Awards. The women were recognized for their volunteer work serving the legal needs of the poor.
These awards were presented by Gretchen Farwell, center, who is the Managing Attorney of the Rock Island, IL, office of Prairie State Legal Services. Prairie State represents many hundreds of clients each year in preventing domestic violence; preventing unlawful evictions; preserving their homes; obtaining and maintaining Medicaid, SSI, and Social Security Disability benefits; keeping custody of their children. Prairie State staff resolve a myriad of other problems that involve their clients’ basic human needs.
