kathe vegterKathe Vegter, 76, of 15479-C Henry Road, Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at The Villages Regional Hospital in The Villages, FL. Heaven gained a very beautiful, special, angel who will be greatly missed.

Kathe was born January 21, 1941, in Clinton, IA, to Leland and Mary Alice (Bush) Kane. She was educated in the Fulton grade schools and was a 1959 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. She was active in the Fulton High School Band and was also a cheerleader. She was the queen of the Fulton Relay, and she and her future husband, John, were voted queen and king of their Senior Prom. On November 19, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, John A. Vegter, in Fulton. For the first few years of their marriage Kathe was employed at Fidelity Life in Fulton. She then worked several years at Quinn’s Jewelry in Morrison. She had a definite love of jewelry. Kathe was a devoted homemaker, which was the most important job to her, but she also helped with their farming business and family-owned car washes. She enjoyed life to the fullest and traveled to many destinations with family and friends. She loved to golf and spend winters in Florida, go on shopping excursions, and  cook and entertain for her family and friends. Most of all, she loved being with her family and her five grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her husband, John; one daughter, Cynthia Ottens of Morrison; one son, Timothy (Jill) Vegter of Morrison; five grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Vegter, Matthew (Natalie) Vegter, Gregory Ottens, Nathan (Megan Houzenga) Ottens; four sisters, Mary Lee Cecil of Fulton, Brenda Hesser of Weeki Wache, FL, Candi (Chuck) Bubert of St. Augustine, FL, Deb (John) Hauptman of Morrison; two brothers, Richard (Ginny) Kane of Circleville, OH, and Steven (Tricia) Kane of Fulton; a sister-in-law, Judy Rus of Morrison; many cherished nieces and nephews.

Kathe was preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in-law, Linda Walker; one brother-in-law, Charles Hesser.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Gerald Norman, Pastor of Ebenezer Reformed Church

VISITATION:  4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL

A memorial to the National Kidney Foundation has been established.
