The Volunteer Educators at the Windmill Cultural Center in Fulton, IL, invite the public to attend the next program of the season. The March 15, 2017, Wild Winter Wednesdays at the Windmill Cultural Center will teach guests about jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke. The public is invited to gather at 9:00 a.m. for coffee, tea, and refreshments. The program begins at 9:15.
The building, 111 10th Avenue, Fulton, is accessible to people with disabilities. The program is funded through a grant from the Fulton Association for Community Enrichment (FACE).
Jim Petersen will talk about jazz great “Bix” Beiderbecke, a cornetist, pianist, and composer. Petersen retired from the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency, where he worked as Computer Operations Supervisor for 32 years. He became interested in Bix Beiderbecke, a native of Davenport, IA, and his music when his father passed away. Petersen’s paternal grandmother and Bix’s mother were first cousins. At the time of Petersen’s father’s passing, the historian for the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society called to ask if he had any stories connected to Beiderbecke.
Petersen now serves on the Board Of Directors for the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society and once served as Vice President. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Bix Beiderbecke Museum and Archives. Petersen enjoys telling Bix’s story. The musician was much loved by everyone who knew him, and his musical legacy still lives today.
A new feature each week will be the addition of bread for sale by Krumpets Bakery. Guests will be able to purchase bread made with de Immigrant flour at the Windmill Cultural Center.
WWW@WCC programs are held on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. from December to the end of March. Programs are free and open to the public.
