Helen Norman, 88, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Pleasant View.
Helen was born August 8, 1928, in Cook County, IL, to Nick and Emma (Vandyke) Sloot. She was a graduate of Morrison High School. On November 28, 1947, she married John H. Norman in Morrison. He died March 9, 2008. Helen farmed along with her husband, John, in the rural Garden Plain and Morrison areas. She was also employed by Jack Trent Aerial Spraying. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and belonged to the church’s Phileathia and Ladies Aid Society. She also served as librarian for the youth library at the church. She was active in the Whiteside County Home Extension. Helen collected Snow Babies figurines and Fostoria Colony glassware. She also enjoyed crafts and needlework.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane (Chuck L.) Bos of Geneseo, IL, and Cheryl (Rob) Stearns of St. Petersburg, FL; one son, Robert (Margaret) Norman of Clinton, IA; six grandchildren, Russell (Amanda) Bos, Katie (Scott) Lewis, Beth (Bobby) Lopez, Michael (Megin) Stearns, Rebecca (David) Green, Nathan Norman; nine great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Kaysey, and Chloe Bos, Karah Bos, Nichole Lewis, Faith and Tyler Green, Ryane and Bri Stearns; two sisters, Virginia Beveroth of Morrison and Dorothy Koster of Sterling, IL; one sister-in-law, Marguerite Clark of Fulton, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one son, Roger Norman; two grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Stearns; one sister, Carol Sloot, in infancy.
